Safety Second: Always know who your child is talking to online. Use Parental Filters/Controls to limit inappropriate material.
Public Relations Ideas: Always speak positively about your school to your children. Let them know that education is important to your family.
Around the Council
Mountain View PTA Hosted the Student Awards Ceremony on January 11th at 2PM (Click Here for Photos)
Held its Annual Fundraiser at Barnes and Noble on December 6, 2008
Hosts a monthly President's Luncheon for all PTA Presidents on the first Friday of each month
Will join with the Title One Program of the Johnson City School System to host the Annual Program "A Look Into Our Schools" on February 6th at 10AM at Columbus Powell
Extends sincere appreciation to all of the Members of the Johnson City School Board during School Board Appreciation Week January 25-31, 2009
Around Our Schools
Cherokee PTA:
Encourages volunteers in a wide variety of school activities
Collects General Mills "Box Tops for Education", Campbells Soup "Labels for Education"
Supplies Volunteers for the Cafeteria and Library Media Center
Fairmont PTA:
Is presenting a Kindergarten Program at their January 13th PTA meeting to be held at 6:30PM.
Had 59 Student/Family representatives at the Turkey Trot winning them 3rd Place in the School Participation Contest and a prize of $400.00
Won the Freedom Hall Swim Contest earning them a Free Swim Party
Awarded Medals to the Reflections, Citizenship and Safety Poster Contest Winners at the December PTA Meeting
Enjoyed a wonderful Veteran's Day Program at their November PTA Meeting
Sponsored Citizenship, Reflections and Safety Poster Contests
Lake Ridge PTA:
Held a Mock Election with 500 students voting. 67% voted for John McCain for President and 72% voted for classical music to play in the cafeteria during
lunches
Sponsored a very successful K-1 Math Night with 60 students, parents and teachers attending
Encourages everyone to sign up for a variety of program incentives sponsored by local merchants (see the Lake Ridge website for more details)
Asks that students/families clip Campbells Soup "Labels for Education", "General Mills Box Tops For Education" and Tyson Labels for "Project A+". Each label earns products for the school

Was entertained by the 3rd Grade at a "Sing for the Red, White and Blue" Program at their November General Meeting

Woodland PTA:
Enjoyed a Kindergarten Music/Cookies/Cocoa Event at their December General Meeting
Is Planning an Art Show and Sale of Original Student Artwork at a date to be Announced this Spring
Will hold a General PTA Meeting on February 19th at 6PM

Indian Trail PTSA:

Was able to fulfill numerous teacher wish lists through the funds raised during the annual "5K Run for the Hill"
Reports that entries in this year's Citizenship Essay Contest were double those of last year
Has applied for a grant to supply Electronic Bulletin Boards for the two cafeterias
Will Announce winners of the Citizenship, Reflections and Safety Poster contests at Awards Day in May
Has held numerous Grounds Beautification workdays. Students who assist with these workdays will qualify for Community Service Hours
Will be awarding a PTSA Scholarship to a SHHS senior this year
